How to Buy
Please note a 22% buyers premium (including gst) applies to the hammer price of any purchase.
Buying from an auction involves 3 steps:
Inspection
Auctions are open to the public and we welcome any new patrons. An illustrated catalogue is available on our website one week prior to an auction. If you are subscribed to our mailing list you will receive an email notification.
We are open for viewing before an auction. You can visit our rooms and inspect any items in person. Viewing days and times are listed in the catalogue and on our website.
If you are unable to attend a viewing you can request a condition report by email or telephone. A condition report will detail any damage or unusual characteristics specific to an item.
Bidding
You can bid at Aalders by live online bidding and by telephone and absentee bidding.
Live Bidding: We use the live bidding platforms, Invaluable and Live Auctioneers. You can bid online from any location. Please register an account with either of these services, find the relevant auction and apply for approval with us. Please note live bidding will incur an additional 5% premium to your final invoice.
Absentee Bid: If you are unable to attend the auction you can leave an absentee bid by email, telephone or in person. Please note the lot number, item description and your maximum bid. Bidding will not start at your maximum bid. The auctioneer will bid on your behalf up to that amount if there are other bids. Bidding will usually start at the lower estimate. There is no fee for an absentee bid.
Telephone Bid: If you are unable to attend the auction you can leave a telephone bid by email, telephone or in person. Telephone bids are accepted on lots with a lower estimate of $200 or more. Please note the lot number, telephone number/s we can contact you on and a cover bid if we are unable to reach you. A representative from Aalders will call you a few lots before your lot is due to be auctioned. They will relay the bidding as it happens in the room and give you the opportunity to bid. There is no fee for a telephone bid.
Payment and Collection
If you are successful with bidding you will receive an invoice by email or in person.
Payment and collection is required 5 days after an auction. We accept payment by cash, bank transfer and credit card. Please note a Visa or Mastercard will incur a 1% surcharge and American Express will incur an 3.2% surcharge.
If you are unable to collect your items in person we offer an economical packing and shipping service. Items are packed in-house and shipped with Australia Post.
Please note if items are not collected in the required time, daily storage fees will apply.
