Extremely Rare Early 16th Century Ivory Diptych
Sun Dial and Compass, c.1600, by Paulus Reinman, Nuremberg, Germany of rectangular form, the cover set with a wind rose featuring cardinal directions such as ‘Nort’ for North and ‘Ost’ for East, with compass viewing aperture, opening to reveal a string gnomon to cast shadow to show the time and months which are displayed as astrological signs, signed in Latin, together with a reference book “The Ivory Sundials of Nuremberg 1500-1700 by Penelope Gouk, 1988, 7.5cm x 5.5cm x 1.5cm
